Hello one and all. It is now Saturday 16th January. I’ve just had some breakfast and am making my way back up to Abell Point Marina in Airlie Beach.
I arrived safely yesterday 15th at around 08.30. As luck would have it I met a guy on the flight from Brisbane to Prosepine who is also taking part in the Clipper Round the World Race. Nice Aussie guy and as he was renting a car he offered to drive myself and another lad we met up to Airlie Beach. This turned a potential hour bus ride into a comfortable 40 minute car trip. Fair play to him, wouldn’t take any cash so we arranged an age old barter in beer!
Once we arrived we made our way straight to the Clipper office to hand in our passports, get checked in, confirm visas, fill in departure slips for emigration and once the logistics were taken care of I made my way to check in with the team, Derry-Londonderry-Doire…
Met a few people I trained with during the 4 training weeks back in the UK so it was nice to catch up with some familiar faces. Then I met my own team which includes a few full Round the Worlders, met the Skipper, had a chat and having the craic. It took a few hours to sort out my bags, get all into dry bags and my main bag in order for on board.
I was assigned my bunk where I am sharing with Ruth, who is a Round the Worlder. We will rotate in the bunk as we are on separate shifts.
Diary entry ended. (He must have been distracted!!!)
